On June 15, Hami Guanghui Huanbao Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Guanghui Energy Co., Ltd., signed an Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract in Urumqi with Wuhuan Engineering Co., Ltd., a company affiliated to China National Chemical Engineering Co., Ltd., for a 400 000 t/a mono ethylene glycol (MEG) plant. The new plant will be the first coke oven gas-based project in China (a comprehensive energy utilization project).

With a total investment of RMB3.56 billion, the project is settled in Naomao Lake Industrial Zone, Yiwu County, Hami City, Xinjiang, and adopts the third-generation technology of WHB synthetic gas-to-polyester MEG. The technology, jointly developed by Wuhuan Engineering Co., Ltd., Hubei Huashuo Technology Co., Ltd., and Hebi Baoma Technology Group Co., Ltd., extracts high-value synthetic gas components such as H2 and CO from the coke oven gas via procedures from conversion, transformation, low-temperature methanol wash to PSA adsorption separation, and then generates polyester MEG through carbonylation, hydrogenation and refining processes.
