On May 7, Clariant announced that it would cooperate with its engineering partner Wuxi Xiyuan Engineering & Technology to supply their joint formaldehyde production technology to Shandong Yushiju Chemical and Shandong Sunny Wealth New Materials on their new formaldehyde projects.

The innovative solution, based on Clariant’s FAMAX? 200 iron-molybdenum process catalyst, will be used on the formaldehyde plants, with capacities expected at 150 kt/a and 130 kt/a, respectively to allow producers to achieve considerably higher productivity and profitability with improvements on formaldehyde yields and quality. The hollow cylinder design of the new-generation formaldehyde catalyst can reduce the pressure drop of the catalyst bed by 10%-15%, enabling producers to reduce energy consumption flexibly or to increase production capacity by consuming the same amount of energy.

The projects are scheduled to launch operation in 2019.
