Shandong provincial government recently issued Plan to Investigate and Deal with Problems Related to Hazardous Wastes, trying to improve capabilities to utilize and dispose hazardous wastes, and hoping to reduce environmental issues arising from the illegal transfer and dumping of solid wastes, especially hazardous wastes.

The plan calls for investigating capabilities of firms to dispose hazardous wastes, and cautiously disposing illegally dumped solid wastes. Related departments are to mainly investigate:

* Quantities, categories, storage, dumping sites of hazardous wastes from industrial enterprises

* Categories, quantities and destinations of hazardous wastes that are transferred across provinces

* Production processes, wastes generation & disposal, construction of projects in key industries

* Collection, storage and disposal of sludge of centralized sewage treatment facilities, installed at municipal sewage treatment plants, industrial parks (chemical parks in particular) and industrial agglomeration areas

* Quantities, categories, storage and disposal of waste mineral oil and waste lead-acid storage batteries
