China is to propel the application of methanol-fueled vehicles in places (e.g. Shanxi, Shaanxi, Guizhou and Gansu) with resource advantages and related experiences, as detailed in Guiding Opinions on Propelling Application of Methanol-fueled Vehicles in Some Areas, jointly issued by eight departments including the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, etc. on March 19.

Methanol-fueled vehicles are encouraged to be used as official cars, taxies or short-distance passenger cars in regions where conditions permit. While strengthening rational layout of the methanol-fueled vehicle industry, the government is to improve related policies, technical standards and market application security systems. In addition, the document calls for improving market application levels, and helping domestic methanol-fueled vehicle firms maintain leading position (in the aspects of products, technologies and special equipment) in the world.
