Kailuan (Group) Limited Inner Mongolia Company has recently held a project financing promotion meeting for a 400 kt/a coal-based mono-ethylene glycol (MEG) project in Inner Mongolia. With a total investment of RMB6.644 billion, the project will be constructed in three years and will realise an annual sales income of RMB2.765 billion on average.

The project is located in the East Industrial Park of Dalu New District in Jungar Banner, Ordos City of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Construction work includes a 400 kt/a MEG production line and supporting public and auxiliary projects. The production process uses the conversion gas yielded from Jinhua Gasifier as feedstock and Co-Mo type wide temperature and sulfur-resistant conversion is adopted, so that the ratio of hydrogen and carbon monoxide is in conformity with the requirements for producing MEG.

Desulfurization and decarbonization are carried out by low-temperature methanol washing, and the separation of hydrogen and carbon monoxide is by cryogenic separation. Hydrogen concentration is carried out by a pressure swing adsorption (PSA) process. Carbonylation of methanol is used to produce dimethyl oxalate, which is then hydrogenated to get MEG.
