On January 23, a completion ceremony was held for Sinopec-Wanbei Coal Electricity’s Methanol-to-olefin (MTO)/Catalytic Cracking Olefin (OCC) plant.

The MTO/OCC plant is one of the core plants of the joint project, including 1.7 million tons of MTO and 100 000 tons of OCC. The plant covers an area of 73 500 square meters and is constructed by Sinopec Engineering Construction Co., Ltd. The core process serving the MTO plant is Sinopec’s patented technology - S-MTO, with methanol used as raw material to produce low-carbon olefins such as ethylene and propylene for downstream polypropylene and polyethylene. It also generates low value-added byproducts such as C4 and C5 that can be converted to high value-added products like ethylene and propylene by an OCC unit.
