On December 20 2018, Qingdao's first submarine natural gas pipeline, the Jiaozhou Bay Submarine Natural Gas Pipeline Project, was officially launched. With the total investment of about RMB1.45 billion, the pipeline is designed to stretch to 72 kilometers approximately, of which the deep section is around 12 kilometers, in line with the course of natural gas cogeneration project, which is jointly developed by China Datang Corporation and China Huadian Corporation Ltd., and to commence its operation in time.
 

The construction of the Gas Pipeline Project is of great significance to improve the urban natural gas support capacity, further optimize the urban energy structure and promote the conversion of new and old kinetic energy in the energy field. As per the estimation, more than 1 million tons of coal can be saved per year subsequent to the project’s commencement of operation.
