First Joint Energy Plan for Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region Released

Bulk coal is to be basically eliminated in plain regions of Beijing; Hebei (rural areas in plain regions) and Tianjin (mountain areas excluded) will choose other sources of energy for heating instead of coal, all by 2020, as detailed in Energy Coordinated Development Plan for Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region (2017-2020), the first joint energy plan issued by Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei, involving eight areas like energy facility, energy management and green development of energy.
Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei (BTH) consume around 10% of China’s energy in total, and they all need to optimize energy structure and improve air quality. The plan includes 68 tasks, with the reduction of coal use as a priority of work, attempting to control coal consumption in the BTH region at around 300 million tons by 2020.
