Dürr Campus Opens in Shanghai

On March 3, Dürr announced that it has opened another modern campus site for some 800 employees in Shanghai, eastern China. The office and technology complex in the Qingpu district has been home to the group’s Chinese activities in the painting and environmental technology field since the end of February. Dürr offers its customers extensive opportunities for product testing and training there. The investment volume amounts to around Euro 25 million.
The new site covers a total area of 20 000 m2. About one fifth of this area houses a validation center, in which Dürr now offers painting robot pre-commissioning to Chinese customers. “This is a new local service, which saves our customers a lot of time,” says Ralf W. Dieter, CEO of Dürr AG. Prior to this, robot pre-commissioning for the Chinese market was carried out exclusively in Germany.
Another new facility is the test center measuring roughly 2 000 m2. This enables customers to perform many product and application tests locally, which were previously only possible in Germany. There is also a training center (2 600 m2) for providing practice-oriented training to plant personnel. Office space covers almost 9 000 m2 of the site. Reiner Schmid, President of Dürr China says: “In Qingpu, customers are offered all important functions for efficient order execution under one roof – from engineering and project management through to software programming.” Even the service team, which Dürr is continuously expanding in China, is based on the campus.
The new site is part of the Qingpu High Tech Park and is in the immediate vicinity of a production plant opened by Dürr in 2012. This results in short distances and efficient communication in the Chinese painting and environmental technology business.
The investment in Shanghai-Qinqpu is another step toward expanding Dürr's local presence in China. Dürr already opened a similar site for its mechanical engineering activities in Shanghai-Baoshan back in 2013.
