China Plans 3.5 BLN M3 of New Shale Gas Capacity in 2017

The National Energy Administration said in a report on February 17 that China aims to add 3.5 billion m3 of new shale gas capacity in national demonstration projects in 2017.
China aims to cap the national energy consumption at 4.4 billion tons of standard coal equivalent in 2017. The proportion of non-fossil fuels will be raised to 14.3%, natural gas will be increased to 6.8% while the share of coal will be lowered to 60%. China also aims to produce 3.67 billion tons of standard coal equivalent of energy in 2017, including 3.65 billion tons of coal, 200 million tons of crude oil, and 170 billion m3 of natural gas (including 10 billion m3 of shale gas).
The NEA report also said China will continue to deal with overcapacity and push forward a plan to upgrade the quality of oil products. China will also promote the large-scale development of non-fossil fuels and the use of biomass and geothermal energy. The nation will promote the clean development and utilization of fossil fuels and improve oil and gas supplies to ensure energy security. It will also fully implement the 13th Five-year Plan for the development of major oil and gas technologies, supporting technological innovation in onshore deep layer, deep-water, and unconventional oil and gas exploration and development; further advancing offshore oil and gas exploration and development; accelerating the construction of natural gas trunk pipeline interconnection projects to ensure supply; advancing the development of key coalbed methane projects and accelerating the construction of coaldbed methane industrial bases including the Qinshui Basin, the east edge of the Ordos Basin and the Bishuixing bsae in Guizhou province.
