LANXESS: Clean Water, Better Life

On December 13, 2016, the Award Ceremony for the specialty chemicals company LANXESS’s 2nd “Clean Water for Better Life” College Students’ Water Resources Protection and Utilization Competition was held in Shanghai.
With the Water Pollution Control Action Plan released, LANXESS worked with China WTO Tribune and held the 1st “Clean Water for Better Life” Competition a year ago. Time flies fast. One year later, the 2nd “Clean Water for Better Life” Competition was held as planned. In this Competition, wider scope and more colleges were involved, more diverse topics were focused on and influences and effects of more practical significance were generated. In the 2nd “Clean Water for Better Life” event, 15 projects in 9 universities were selected from 27 projects submitted by 13 universities and would be funded; in the project review stage, a total of 18 371 votes were received from the public, two times as much as those in the first competition.
“Instead of an abstract concept, clean water is clear water stream around houses of the public, clean water in the faucet in millions of households, as well as safe, clean and healthy drinking water in everyone’s cup.” Mr. Ming Cheng Chien, CEO of LANXESS Greater China, delivered a speech in the Award Ceremony for the 2nd LANXESS “Clean Water for Better Life” College Students’ Water Resources Protection and Utilization Competition, “for an enterprise in the field of providing water treatment products and solutions, managing water resources is the fundamental goal for our business; and for a country, it is a major task for transformation of economic development mode and promotion of social innovation.”
As a responsible corporate citizen, LANXESS has focused on water treatment industry for more than 75 years. It has been actively committed to effectively helping enhance the supply of clean water, improve water quality, and reduce the cost of drinking water.
Water is the source of life, and also the source of sustainable development. At present, there are many crucial issues in China, such as water resources shortage, poor water environmental quality in some areas, heavy damaged water ecology and many environmental problems, which affect and impair the health of the people and are not conducive to sustainable economic and social development.
How can we provide new ideas for the economic development and open up a new path for sustainable growth in the face of new problems and challenges? In this regard, LANXESS has its own opinion and pursuit.

LANXESS’s Responsibility

According to “Made in China 2025”, green manufacturing will be comprehensively implemented, and LANXESS’s innovation and green development concepts it has been practicing happen to coincide with the requirements in the transformation and upgrading of Chinese industry.

LANXESS has implemented the systemic energy management program based on ISO5001, and taken measures in the aspects of resources conservation, recycling economy, clean production, transportation and three wastes treatment to save resources and reduce energy costs. More to the point, LANXESS has focused on research and development of innovative process technology. Technology innovation has not only brought LANXESS technical advantage, but also effectively reduced energy consumption and emissions, and lowered adverse effects on the environment in the production process.  
LANXESS has been selected into The Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) World six times successively, which means LANXESS as an enterprise has had high sense of responsibility, integrated the responsibility into its operations, and established the corporate brand concept of green development. Meanwhile, LANXESS has always regarded resources saving, environment protection and sustainable development as its long-term goal and mission. In the increasingly fierce market competition, corporate economic benefits and Corporate Responsibility complement each other. Profit is not the only purpose of an enterprise. Only an enterprise has taken the necessary social responsibility, can it win the trust and respect of the society and realize the sustainable development.
