Covestro Highlights Cross-Sector Innovation and Collaboration at ChinaCoat 2016

Covestro showcased its innovative polyurethane (PU) solutions and cross-sector collaboration at ChinaCoat 2016, from November 30 to December 2, 2016. The Coatings, Adhesives and Specialties (CAS) Business Unit introduced its latest PU coating and adhesive solutions for key application industries, including transportation, construction, furniture as well as lifestyle, under the powerful motto “Inventing polymer solutions for you”.
Invent eco-friendly furniture with natural looking appearance
The ever-growing middle-class in China is paying more attention to the creative design as well as safety and health of indoor environment at home and office, in pursuit of a higher quality life.
Covestro, in collaboration with well-known industrial designer Jamy Yang, presents the “Suixing” eco-friendly furniture collection, which is inspired by Covestro’s low volatile organic compounds (VOC), low odor waterborne two-component PU wood coating solution.
Under the big trend of industrial upgrading and sustainable development, the furniture industry is also undergoing transformation, especially in terms of meeting the new environmental standards. It brings both challenges and opportunities. According to market forecast, the market share of waterborne wood coating will rise to 10% by 2020 in China.
Launch waterborne label targeting the transportation value chain
To support the Chinese government’s effort in promoting green transportation, Covestro has launched a brand new easy-to-spray waterborne coating technology label and extends the awareness of advanced PU coating technology to downstream users, such as domestic bus and rail transit, in cooperation with local leading waterborne coating partners.
Covestro’s easy-to-spray waterborne PU coating technology, formulated with Bayhydrol?, can bring users the obvious advantage of higher coating efficiency. The latest waterborne two-component PU coating solution is easy to spray and suitable for 10 -35 ℃ working condition with the humidity of 20% to 80%. It has excellent spraying appearance, great bubble film-free thickness (dry film thickness >=120 μm under natural drying conditions), and similar spray-application window with solvent-based coating.
In China, Covestro’s waterborne two-component PU coating solution has been applied to 38 000 large vehicles since 2008 such as buses, wagon trucks, metro vehicles and trucks, etc.
Versatile new PU materials: shape the walk to the future
Materials innovation has become an increasingly important factor in realizing product design with better user experience and successful commercialization. Covestro and Successful Design jointly organized the shoe design event “Walk to the Future”, with a focus on developing creative shoe designs and prototypes using smart PU materials.
Six Chinese designers from various fields, including 3D printing design, graphic design, high-fashion design, accessories design, product design and industrial design, were invited to develop shoe prototypes using Covestro’s innovative shoe materials, which include INSQIN waterborne PU coated fabrics, ETPU foam, high performance waterborne adhesives and 3D printing new manufacturing technology. Covestro will work closely with materials suppliers and shoe manufacturers along the value chain to produce the shoe prototypes and exhibit them in early 2017.
