Bayer CropScience Launches Food Chain Partnership Project with Star Farm

On September 5 Bayer CropScience China launched its food chain partnership project with Star Farm China. Following the signing of a framework agreement in March this year, both parties have decided to continue the outstanding achievements of pilot projects and further expand it to platform operation system.
Over the past two years, Star Farm and Bayer CropScience have been working together on a pilot platform in China for producing and marketing high quality vegetables to meet export standard and consumers' increasing demand on safe food. As the technical partner, Bayer CropScience provides farmers with sustainable crop solutions including crop protection programs, high quality seeds, professional services and instruction on best agricultural practice. The sustainability performance of this farming system is measured via the Bayer Sustainability Radar.
Star Farm provides farm base assessment and training. Each step of the production is checked and recorded on the Star Farm Databank which is an innovative tool for interfacing between market and production.
Rob Hulme, Country Head of Bayer CropScience Greater China, commented, "working with Star Farm under the framework agreement will improve Bayer CropScience's access to suppliers and farmers to better understand their needs and tailor-made solutions for them. What we do is to use the strength of each party to contribute to transparent and traceable fruit and vegetable production, bringing value from seed to shelf."
Star Farm is providing professional consulting services for nearly 1 000 agricultural producers and cooperatives. Established in late 2007 with the support of METRO GROUP and based in China, Star Farm is now expanding to Asia.
