Since then, AICM members have held many of such events and try to build an effective platform to communicate with the public through Open to Pubic Day event. As a signature event of AICM, Open to Public Day has gradually become a major measure taken by AICM and its members to increase the transparency and build fine social images.
Shanghai Chemical Industrial Park as the first place for series activities of AICM this year held the Open-to-Public Day, which has a special meaning. The Industrial Park is known for the first special development area mainly for oil and fine chemicals since the reform and opening-up of China and also the center in the southern part of the six major industrial bases in Shanghai that were deployed during the 10th Five-Year Plan. With the development and construction of the Park, a layout featuring integration has been gradually formed and effectively integrated the product projects, public facilities, logistics, transportation, environmental protection and management service so as to provide the best investment climate for investors in the Park. Shanghai Chemical Industrial Park and AICM's ongoing pursue for EHS (Environment, Health and Safety) has facilitated the event of Open-to-Public Day and promoted it to a higher level.
During the activities in the morning, participators were invited to the Exhibition of Open-to-Public Day jointly held by Bayer, Evonik Industry, Vopak, Shanghai Tianyuan, DSM, Dupont, LANXESS, and PPG Industries to review the achievements made by AICM, Shanghai Chemical Industrial Park and chemical companies in communication of safe operation and "Responsible Care" in the course of sustained development, and especially to see in what way chemicals, which constitute a major part of our daily life, improve life quality in clothing, food, accommodation and travel on the basis of technical innovation that provide guarantee for environment, health, safety and quality; In the afternoon, representatives paid a visit to the modern plants of Bayer, Evonik, Vopak and Shanghai Tianyuan Huasheng, saw the input and practice of environmental protection of chemical enterprises and personally experienced the practice and results of "Responsible Care" and the whole process of product R&D and manufacturing. By the end of the program, representatives finished the event by participating in an interactive activity for view exchange and dialogue.
Yu Dahai, President of AICM noted in his speech that since AICM and 24 member enterprises have signed the "Responsible Care: Beijing Manifesto", AICM and its members are actively committed to practice and promotion of Responsible Care in China. In 2009, they launched the Open-to-Public Day for the first time in Zhangjiagang to introduce the principles of safety and environmental friendly for security operation process to the public, and build the new image of reliable chemical industry in China by means of sharing information, promoting strict, healthy and safe control system, performance indicators and verification procedures. Up to now, there have been over 10 member enterprises which had held similar activities for several times. This brand event of AICM is also becoming a well functioning platform for chemical enterprises to exchange views with the public. In the same year, AICM worked with China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association to hold the "Conference for Responsible Care 2009" and gained strong supports from government departments including Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP). AICM chose June 5th as the day for the event because it wished to welcome the World Environment Day with actions and to let the public know more about how chemical products improve  the life quality through the theme activity "Chemical: Making Life Better".
As the start of the series activities of "Open-to-Public Day", AICM will also work with other members to provide opportunities for the public to see the environment of chemical production, operation and R&D of member enterprises and show products that are closely associated with our daily life. DSM, LANXESS, PPG Industries and other members have arranged the fulfillment of the Manifesto and holding activities of Open-to-Public Day in their recent agendas.
