Hurricane Chemical Inaugurates Production of Ethyleneamines    

Jiangxi Hurricane Chemical Co Ltd (Hurricane Chemical) announced on September 20th that it put on stream a 10 000 t/a ethyleneamines production facility at Yichun, Jiangxi province that uses the catalytic synthesis process developed by the company itself. This is China's first commercial ethyleneamines plant.
   At the end of 2008 the company operated successfully a 100 t/a pilot unit using this new technology and started construction of the 10 000 t/a project with a total investment of RMB100 million. Construction has been completed on June 30th this year.
   Ethyleneamines are important intermediate for making pharmaceuticals, dyestuffs, pesticides, and epoxy resin curing agents.
    Hurricane Chemical mainly engages in the manufacture of epoxy resin, adhesives and can annually produce 1 200 tons of methyl 3,3-dimethyl-4-pentenoate that is an important pesticide intermediate. The company disclosed a plan at the startup ceremony that it is preparing the phase two 60 000 t/a ethyleneamines project. Construction is expected to be started at the end of 2010.
