Shanghai Chlor-alkali Invests RMB880 MLN in Chlorine-containing Products     

On January 4th, 2010 Shanghai Chlor-alkali Chemical Co., Ltd. (Shanghai Chlor-alkali) announced that it plans to invest about RMB880 million to establish several sets of facilities for the production of chlorine-containing products.    
   These facilities are scheduled to come on stream in June 2011. When full operational, it will annually produce 180 000 tons (converted into 100% purity) of 32% ion-membrane caustic soda, 150 000 tons of liquid chlorine with a concentration of 99.8%, 34 200 tons of high purity hydrochloric acid (31%), 20 000 tons of sodium hypochlorite and 291 000 tons of dichloroethane.
   Shanghai Chlor-alkali said its sales of liquid chlorine has market assurance because in December 2009 it signed a sales contract with Bayer Polyurethanes (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. to supply the latter 160 000 tons of liquid chlorine every year since July 2011.
   It is worth noting that Shanghai Chlor-alkali is about to sell 15.53% stock share in Ningxia Western PVC Co., Ltd. which mainly engages in the production and sales of PVC resin, caustic soda and etc.
   The sales revenue of Shanghai Chlor-alkali in the first nine months of 2009 is RMB3.572 billion, down 19.16% year on year.
