CNPC Lanzhou Petrochemical Took Place Explosion      

On January 7th, an explosion broke out at the tanks in the Petrochemical Works of CNPC Lanzhou Petrochemical Company Ltd. in Xigu district of Lanzhou, Gansu province. The accident caused five deaths and six wounded, CNPC said in a statement on January 8th.
   These tanks are filled with light oil, such as liquefied petroleum gas and light hydrocarbons. The burning substances can not produce poisonous and harmful gases to pollute air. And no defiled water by fire control discharged into the Yellow River nearby, CNPC said.
   By the initial analysis, leak of tanks with C4 making combustible substances reach explosion utmost caused the accident.
   CNPC Lanzhou Petrochemical is a hybrid in refining, chemical and fertilizer businesses, which is a production and sales leader integrated in refining, organics, special rubbers and fine chemicals in the western China. The company has currently a refining capacity of 10.5 million t/a, with ethylene capacity of 600 000 t/a. At the end of 2009, CNPC Lanzhou Petrochemical started up its 5.5 million t/a atmospheric and vacuum distillation facility, and initiated construction of the National Oil Storage Base in Lanzhou.
   In February 2007, the C4 workshop of Synthetic Rubber Plant under CNPC Lanzhou Petrochemical was exploded. And in December, 2006, an explosion in the Assistant Plant of CNPC Lanzhou Petrochemical took place.
   CNPC announced on January 11th that the refining operation has not been affected by the accident.
