Outdated Calcium Carbide Facility Being Phased out     

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced on December 18th, 2009 the outdated calcium carbide facilities in China, which are required to close effective the end of 2009. These are set as the eliminated calcium carbide plants for the fourth batch (IV) since the first announcement of unaccepted calcium carbide plants for first batch in 2007.
   The eliminated calcium carbide facilities for the IV batch totaled production capacity of 466.8 thousand t/a, separately seated in Shaanxi, Shanxi provinces and Inner Mongolia region.
   These calcium carbide plants to be closed have lag processes and small scale as well pollutants discharge possibility. China has phased out outdated calcium carbide plants with a total capacity of 1 million t/a nationwide by the end of 2009, MIIT said.
