Celanese Joins U.S.-China Energy Cooperation Program as Founding Management Board Member

Celanese Corporation has become a founding corporate member of the U.S.-China Energy Cooperation Program (ECP) and joined the entity's founding management board. Celanese announced on December 23rd, 2009.
This reaffirms the company's commitment to environmentally sustainable growth in China, the company's fastest-growing region.
The mission of ECP, a private-sector initiated, managed and financed organization, is to facilitate the adoption of clean energy technologies in China. The ECP will do this by leveraging private sector business resources in both the U.S. and China to:
    * promote commercially viable project development work in clean energy and energy efficiency,
    * support the sustainable development of the energy sectors in both countries, and
    * provide a vehicle for companies to work together to pursue business development opportunities, address trade impediments and advance sustainable development.

These objectives will be accomplished by increasing awareness of U.S. technology, product standards, regulatory processes and services, while partnering with those in China with applicable expertise, technology and equipment.
"Experience has shown that official government support is most effective when closely associated with robust private sector engagement," said Josh Cheng, president, Celanese China, and the representing member for Celanese on the ECP founding management board. "As a management board member, Celanese is committed to supporting the ECP's goal of promoting the use and understanding of clean energy technologies in China."
Celanese has long been an advocate in China on important energy and environmental issues. The company's Nanjing integrated chemical complex is a model for sustainable energy use and innovative technological advancements in the company's multiple production units at the site.
Furthermore, Celanese's manufacturing advancements and innovative technologies are fueling the company's global energy reduction efforts.
