Shanghai Petrochemical Turns Waste Carbon Dioxide Gas to Treasure   

On November 20th, Sinopec Shanghai Petrochemical Co., Ltd. (Shanghai Petrochemical) announced that the second phase 40 000 t/a carbon dioxide project of Shanghai Petrochem-Iwatani Gases Development Co., Ltd. - a JV between Shanghai Petrochemical and Japan Iwatani Corp. has recently come on stream.
   The second phase will use the waste carbon dioxide gas discharged from the ethylene glycol unit of Shanghai Petrochemical to produce food-grade liquid carbon dioxide with a high purity of 99.99%, which can be used as an additive of carbonated beverage, and as preservative for food preservation.
   After the completion, the JV's total food-grade liquid carbon dioxide capacity reaches 75 000 tons a year at present.
