Huaneng Starts Construction on Tembusu Multi-Utilities Complex in Singapore    

China Huaneng Group's unit, Huaneng Power International, Inc, started building its S$2 billion Tuas Power Tembusu multi-utilities complex in Singapore's Jurong Island on November 11th.
   This complex will be the first large scale power and heat co-generation project running on coal and palm shell in Singapore. The complex consists of a thermal power plant, a desalination plant and wastewater treatment plant. The power plant will be capable of producing 160 000 kilowatt-hours of power and 1 000 tons of steam every hour when come on stream in 2012, supplying petrochemical companies at the Tembusu area on Jurong Island.
   Construction on the rest of the complex will be completed in 2014. The power plant's generation costs will be about 10% lower than power produced by plants running on gas. Tuas Power plans to meet the needs at Tembusu with competitive pricing.
   A Huaneng official said the Tembusu project is a key follow-up investment after it acquired Tuas Power. Huaneng decided to start construction of the project at a time the global economic is not yet completely revivable, reflecting its confidence to the Singapore market.
   Huaneng acquired the 100% stake of Tuas Power from Temasek, for RMB21 billion on March 14th, 2008.
