Zhuzhou Chemical Started up First Phase Calcium Carbide Project    

On October 12th, 2009 Hunan Zhuzhou Chemical Industry Group Shunda Co., Ltd.'s two calcium carbide production lines, each has a capacity of 60 000 t/a, came on stream in Chenxi county of Hunan province.
   The whole project has an initial investment of RMB257 million, and will be conducted in two phases. The first phase just started up was launched in July 2008 and the second phase is due for completion in 2010. The whole project will be able to produce 240 000 t/a calcium carbide and 300 000 t/a limestone when full operational, contributing sales revenue of nearly RMB1.0 billion annually.
   The project adopts the advanced technology that was imported from Norway, and producing one ton of calcium carbide only consumes 3 050 kWh of electricity power, 150 kWh less than the normal ones in China.
