Sinopec and Mitsubishi Partner for PC Plant in Beijing     

A 50 : 50 joint venture - Sinopec Mitsubishi Chemical Polycarbonate (Beijing) Company Ltd. (SMP), between Sinopec Corp. and Mitsubishi Chemical, was formally formed in Beijing on August 28th.
    The jv is to operate a bisphenol A (BPA) and polycarbonate (PC) plant in Fangshan district, Beijing. The RMB2.2 billion plant is designed to produce 150 000 tons of BPA and 60 000 tons of PC per year to meet the growing demand in the Chinese market. PC has a wide range of applications in automobiles, electronic appliances and construction industry. The plant is scheduled to come on stream in 2010.
   Sinopec Beijing Yanhua Petrochemical Co., Ltd. will provide phenol and acetone, the raw materials of BPA, and utilities for the jv plant. Mitsubishi Chemical will supply diphenyl carbonate (DPC), the raw material for PC, and also license BPA and PC manufacturing technologies. (CCR2009 No. 14)
