Kingboard Chemical Kicks off Caustic Soda Project Phase IV    

On August 20th, 2009 Hengyang Kingboard Chemical Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hong Kong-based Kingboard Chemical Holdings Ltd., laid a foundation for the construction of its 100 000 t/a ion-membrane caustic soda and 50 000 t/a epichlorohydrin project at Songmu Industry Park, Hengyang, Hunan province in central China.
   As part of the company's phase IV project, the 100 000 t/a ion-membrane caustic soda and 50 000 t/a epichlorohydrin project has an investment of RMB560 million and is scheduled to be completed and put into operation in December 2010. When full operational, the project is expected to add RMB850 million of sales revenue and RMB85 million of earning before tax to the company annually and expand the company's caustic soda production capacity to 290 000 t/a.  
   Hengyang Kingboard Chemical was established in July 2003 with an initial annual production capacity of 30 000 tons of caustic soda acquired from the original Hunan Hengyang Caustic Soda Plant. The company started to construct its second phase 60 000 t/a ion-membrane caustic soda and 80 000 t/a hydrogen peroxide project in 2004 and third phase 100 000 t/a ion-membrane caustic soda and 120 000 t/a PVC resin and 60 000 t/a hydrogen peroxide project in May 2006. The three projects in Hengyang Songmu Industrial Park totally had an investment of RMB1.2 billion and contributed a RMB45 million of profit earning before tax to the company in 2008. According to the company, the fourth phase project will totally have an investment of RMB4.0 billion.
