High Concentration Wastewater Treatment for Fertilizer Industry

The Energy Research Institute of Hebei Academy of Sciences recently developed a new wastewater treatment and reutilization process especially for reclamation of high-concentration wastewater generated in reverse osmosis system of fertilizer manufacturing plants. The technology can easily recycle from the reverse osmosis system the high-hardness water with salt content four times as the influent, and the recycle rate can reach above 80%, thus significantly promoting the reutilization of wastewater from fertilizer companies.
In current fertilizer production, wastewater with a total hardness four times above the original water cannot be recycled and has to be directly discharged, causing high production cost to enterprises and heavy pollution to the environment.
The technology has been done a successful trial run in Baipo Zhengyuan Fertilizer Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Hebei ZhengYuan Chemical Group. It is learned that the company's reverse osmosis system generates more than 500 000 tons of high hardness water every year, and the group is planning to apply the reclamation technology in all of its fertilizer manufacturing subsidiaries in the near future.
