Zhongtai Chemical to Build Chlor-Alkali Project     

Xinjiang Zhongtai Chemical Co., Ltd. (Zhongtai Chemical, SZ: 002092) announced on August 14th its plan to build 1.6 million t/a PVC resin, 1.2 million ion-membrane caustic soda project, and matching facilities - thermoelectric plant and 3.2 million t/a calcium carbide-based cement through its fully-owned subsidiary Xinjiang Zhongtai Chemical Fukang Energy Co., Ltd.
   Zhongtai Chemical Fukang Energy will invest RMB15 billion for the proposed chlor-alkali project in four phases. The first phase will build 400 000 t/a PVC resin, 300 000 t/a ion-membrane caustic soda. Construction on the first phase will be started in 2010 with scheduled startup in 2011. The second, third and fourth phases will separately build 400 000 t/a PVC resin, 300 000 t/a ion-membrane caustic soda and matching facilities.
   Zhongtai Chemical is a leading chlor-alkali producer in China, using calcium carbide as raw materials.
