Yunnan Jiehua Clean Energy Founded     

Yunnan Jiehua Clean Energy Development Co., Ltd., co-founded by China Three Gorges Project Corp. and Yunnan Coal Chemical Industry Group Co., Ltd., was officially established on July 18th in Kaiyuan, Yunnan province.  
   Yunnan Jiehua Clean Energy will engage in the operation and manufacture of clean energy products using brown coal as raw material. With a registered capital of RMB1 billion, the company is 60% owned by Yunnan Coal Chemical and 40% by China Three Gorges.
   The new company will combine Yunnan Jiehua Chem Group's 50-year experiences in the lower calorific power brown coal gasification technology, the pressurized gasification technology for fine coal and methanol-to-gasoline MTG technology, with Yunnan Coal Chemical's brown coal resources, to develop and utilize clean coal. The pressurized gasification technology for fine coal has been successfully used in a 150 000 t/a dimethyl ether plant. The new company aims to boost the development and transformation for brown coal in Yunnan.
   Yunnan Coal Chemical and China Three Gorges will also join hands with the Chinese Academy of Sciences to set up an engineering research center for the clean transformation of brown coal, to boost technology development and industrialization in the sector.
   China Three Gorges, the hydro engineering sector specialist, made a foray into the new energy business three years ago by setting up Yangtze New Energies Development Co., Ltd., in Shanghai in March 2006. Yangtze New Energies focuses on the investment, operation, and marketing of wind power, biomass energy, solar power, tidal power and wave power.
