Overseas Refinery Starts Operation

A gas condensate refinery in Bangladesh constructed by Sinopec Group was successfully started up, and on-spec products were being produced. Sinopec's Luoyang Petrochemical Engineering Co., Ltd, the contractor, completed the construction work on June 15th.

China National Petroleum Corp also said its subsidiary, China Petroleum Engineering & Construction (Group) Corp (CPECC), put a 5 million t/a refinery in Algeria into operation on July 25th after 39 months of work. The refinery, at the Skikda industrial zone in east Algeria, is owned by Algerian state oil company Sonatrach.
The project consists of a 5 million t/a gas condensate splitter and storage facilities for refined oil products, mainly producing naphtha, butane, aviation kerosene and light and heavy diesel.
Sonatrach granted the EPC contract on the refinery to CPECC in March 2005, valued at US$385 million.
