Jiangsu Province Programs Its Coastal Areas

Jiangsu provincial government's coastal area development program has been approved by the State Council of China. Jiangsu province is one of the country's major petrochemical industrial regions. In 2008, the province achieved a sales revenue of RMB624.23 billion in the petrochemical industry, up 20.1% year on year, accounting for 19.6% of the country's total, dominating the other provinces or regions, according to reviews in the program.
As described in the program, the Jiangsu provincial government will speed up construction of its three coastal cities - Lianyungang city, Yancheng city and Nantong city, and program uniformly the industrial layout in coastal areas. Jiangsu's coastal areas have now become clustered bases for major projects. From south to north, eight industrial clusters, such as ship-building, equipment manufacturing, fine chemicals, modern textiles, electric power, advanced materials, electronic and information industry, have already formed there.
Recently Roquette and Du Pont both decide to expand their production bases in Lianyungang city. China National Chemical Corporation (ChemChina) plans to invest RMB8.0 billion to build a 1 million t/a CPP (catalytic pyrolysis process) petrochemical advanced materials and its derivatives plant at Dafeng port of Yancheng city. Many large projects, such as LNG (liquefied natural gas) receiving terminals, LNG power generation plant, China Datang Corporation's power plant and wind power, have been located in Nantong city.
