Meifeng Chemical Kicks off Compound Fertilizer Project

On May 20th, 2009 Sichuan Meifeng Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. (Meifeng Chemical, SZ: 00073) held a ceremony for the groundbreaking of its 300 000 t/a compound fertilizer project and the operation of its 150 000 t/a synthetic ammonia plant.
The 300 000 t/a compound fertilizer project is located in Deyang of Sichuan province with a total investment of RMB156 million. Meifeng Chemical plans to build 2 to 3 compound fertilizer projects in the future, and the one currently under construction will be officially put into operation in 2010.
Construction on the 150 000 t/a synthetic ammonia project was started in December 2007. The project adopts steam pressuring and continuous catalytic reforming process - a relatively advanced technology at present. This new technology brings the company's energy consumption down to 75% of that using atmospheric pressure and intermittent reforming process. At the same time, the process significantly reduced 92.2% of flue dust and 59.8% of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides emissions.
Affected by the global economic crisis, the company's gross profit rate of urea declined in 2008, but that of potash fertilizer and compound fertilizer went up, so the company began to increase input in compound fertilizer projects this year.
