Petrochemical Players Eye Xinjin Chemical Industrial Park

Xinjin, 28 kilometers south of Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province, has created Xinjin Chemical Industrial Park (XCIP) where 35 enterprises are located up to now, focusing on new energy chemical and advanced materials. China National Chemical Group (ChemChina) is building its extra advanced material base at XCIP.
According to the Sichuan Xinjin Petrochemical Industrial Investment Promotion Meeting held in Shanghai May 15th, an 8 square kilometers area within XCIP was designated to form a Petrochemical Zone based on raw materials sourced from Sichuan Refining and Petrochemical Integrated Base, which is under construction in Pengzhou, 42 kilometers northwest of Chengdu.
The meeting allured chemical players from domestic and abroad, including The Dow Chemical, Mitsui Chemicals, Evonik, Air Liquid, Suez, Veolia, ChemChina, UPC Group, East Hope Group, Zhejiang Huafeng Group and Sichuan Chemical Holding Group Co., Ltd.
The Petrochemical Zone at XCIP, aimed to get raw materials that will be produced in the 10 million t/a refinery and 800 thousand t/a ethylene project in Pengzhou, is programmed to develop PTA products series with benzene, para-xylene, ortho-xylene as feedstock and petrochemicals manufacturing section for synthetic materials, engineering plastics and synthetic fibers under the initial blueprint, and further forming acrylic acid, acrylates and bisphenol A downstream production chains.
CNPC Southwest Chemical Sales Company Ltd. has entered into an agreement with PetroChina Sichuan Petrochemical Co., Ltd. who is operator of Sichuan Refining and Petrochemical Integrated Base, in order to ensure supply of raw materials needed at the Petrochemical Zone of XCIP via railway in near future and pipeline in next step.
The refining and petrochemical complex in Pengzhou will push downstream petrochemical development in Chengdu region and bring petrochemical investors more opportunities, insiders said at the meeting.
Utilities at the Petrochemical Zone of XCIP are under construction with scheduled for completion at the end of September 2009.
