Large Project for Heavy Metal Wastewater Treatment Put into Operation

Recently, a project of treating zinc-containing wastewater using electro-coagulation technique established by the 4th Metallurgical Plant of Shuikoushan Nonferrous Metals Group Co,. Ltd. has passed the environmental examination of Hunan Environmental Protection Agency. The project was started in May 2008, and completed in October the same year. It has gone through six months of trial operation smoothly by April. This is the first time for domestic zinc metallurgy industry to adopt internationally advanced electro-coagulation technology in the treatment of wastewater.
This project can handle 4 200 tons of metallurgical wastewater, and reduce about 9 000 tons of wastewater emission every day. The discharge of heavy metals like lead, cadmium, and zinc can all reach the first class of China's Integrated Wastewater Discharge Standard while the removal rate of these three metals above-mentioned invariably hit more than 98.7%. Among them, the discharge of cadmium and zinc can be reduced by 748 kilograms and 396 tons respectively every year.
