Accident Put off Startup of Urea Project in Chongqing

Twelve workers were killed in an accident happened at the construction site of the 800 000 t/a urea project that China National Chemical Engineering Third Construction Company Limited is constructing for Chongqing Jianfeng Chemical Company Limited (Jianfeng, SZ: 000950). These dead workers had been working on the shelter to build a particle-making tower with a height of 106 meters when the shelter collapsed suddenly. The startup schedule for the new urea project, which had been planed at the end of 2009, will therefore be postponed by around 40 days, according to the announcement of Jianfeng.
The accident will not have impact on the 2009 performance of Jianfeng, but has certain impacts on the EPC contractor.
Jianfeng, a chemical fertilizer maker, just purchased on April 30th, 2008 the 450 000 t/a synthetic ammonia and 800 000 t/a urea project that was under construction, from Chongqing Jianfeng Industrial Group, Jianfeng's majority shareholder (holding 52.08%). Jianfeng now operates a 580 000 t/a urea production unit.
