Frequent Fire Casualties Call for Qualified Flame Retardants

China's four ministries including the State Administration of Work Safety recently announced an order to check the burnable furniture materials in public buildings.
Several heavy fire casualties happened in January were attributed to the illegal use of polyurethane foam materials in public buildings, which call for the attention of the government. The polyurethane foam materials, when are burned, can produce toxic gases that causes deaths. The order requires all public buildings must meet the safe regulations and qualified flame retardants must be used.
According to Zhou Zhengmao, the secretary of China Flame Retarding Society, China promulgated a regulation on July 1st, 2008 that all public buildings without qualified flame retardants are not permitted to put into operation.
