LANXESS Profited from CSR and Sustainability Programs

LANXESS'S CSR and sustainability programs have created three sources of competitive advantages for the company, Kaye Lim, Vice President of LANXESS Corporate Communications for Asia Pacific, spoke on January 15th at the Global CSR Summit 2009 held in Singapore.
   * Building technology leadership by offering sustainable innovations (for example the development of innovative eco-friendly technology)
   * Improving cost structure or exploring new business opportunities by applying sustainable initiatives (for example reduction of energy consumption and use of by-products)
   * Creating differentiated brand perceptions among customers
Employees of LANXESS are involved in 50 projects around the world, which include climate protection programs, water treatment projects, promoting science and research, and respect and understanding of diverse cultures. Its corporate citizenship budget for 2008 was EUR4.5 million. Besides competitive advantages, this significant investment underlies LANXESS's firm belief that companies should act responsibly, reduce their risks, have a better brand image and are the more attractive employers in the competition for top talent.
Especially in China, in December 2008, LANXESS received two awards in recognition of its admirable performance in environmental protection and commitment to local research and development.
"Today, China remains strategically important to LANXESS's profitable growth throughout the world.  The company is dedicated to sustainable, forward-looking development which sensibly combines the demands of economy, ecology and society through responsible care." said Martin Kraemer, CEO of LANXESS Greater China.
Additionally, LANXESS China was honored as "One of China's Top Employers 2009 (East China Region)" by the international publishing company CRF. "LANXESS's human resources philosophies are based on Formula X, a key part of LANXESS corporate culture. Formula X is built on four primary business cornerstones. Each of these is integrated into all HR activities. They include: 'Seek solutions - not problems', 'Take ownership', 'Keep it simple' and 'Think new - act fast'." Martin Kraemer added.
As a specialty chemicals provider, LANXESS has committed to investments to enable Green Chemistry in its products and processes so as to reduce its global environmental footprint. The objectives are to reduce pollution and waste, develop processes that use resources more efficiently, implement renewable energy projects, and optimize the energy consumption structure.
