Singpu Delays Construction of SM Plant at Jiangsu

Singpu Chemicals has delayed construction of the styrene monomer (SM) project in light of the current global financial crisis and unfavorable prices.
The company's original plan was to start construction of the SM plant in the third quarter 2008 with a scheduled trial run by the first quarter 2010.
Singpu Chemicals reported that it will continue to monitor prices and the demand-supply situation of SM before embarking on the project again.
With an investment around US$147 million (RMB1.1 billion), the proposed 320 000 t/a SM project was planned to be located in Taixing of Jiangsu province.
Singpu Chemicals, a wholly owned subsidiary of SP Chemicals, produces and sells chlor-alkali products and related downstream products in the same site for Chinese market and exports.
