Hunan Prohibits Electric Appliances Containing CFCs

Hunan province in central China started to prohibit sales of CFCs containing household electric appliances such as refrigerator, air conditioner, ice maker, and others. From October 1st, 2008 the companies engaged in modification and scraping of refrigeration appliances or facilities must recover and reuse the remaindering CFCs in appliances or facilities, reported by the provincial environmental protection administration on December 9th.
The companies or organizations in the province that need to sell or store ODS for modification and other necessary purposes must report to the environmental administrative departments and related administrations the source, destination, sales amount and inventory of ODS on a quarter basis. ODS will be phased out from the cleaning, refrigeration, tobacco, halon and other industrial sectors before the end of 2009. Any carbon tetrachloride project, whatever new or expansion, will not be permitted. The production and use of CFCs is prohibited. Methyl bromide is not allowed to be used for tobacco planting and grain storage.
