Dow Water Solutions Selected for China Ling Ao Nuclear Power Plant

Dow Water Solutions, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company (Dow), announced on December 23rd that its ion exchange resins 650C and 550A for condensate polishing, along with WBA series for brine cleaning will be installed at Ling Ao Nuclear Power Plant (Phase II), which is located adjacent to the Daya Bay Nuclear Power Plant, and together comprise one of the largest, total installed capacity nuclear power bases in China.
These ion exchange resins have excellent mechanical and chemical resistance and have been running successfully in nuclear power plants for more than 15 years, According to Kelvin Cheung, Dow Water Solutions.
The deep-bed condensate polishing systems in pressurized water reactor (PWR) nuclear power plants filters corrosion products transported from the main condenser thus to help control secondary cycle steam generator chemistry.
China is accelerating the construction of nuclear power plants and raising the ratio of nuclear power to five percent of the total energy mix by 2020, according to the newly-formed State Energy Bureau (SEB), state-of-the-art technology will be needed to ensure higher capacity and longer life time performance of the plants.
The two 1 000 MW PWR power generating units of Ling Ao Nuclear Power Plant Phase II will be put into commercial operation in 2010 and 2011 respectively, which will further relieve the pressure of electric power supply in Guangdong province.
