Gaoqiao Petrochemical Cut Sulfur Emission    

Reported by Sinopec Group, its subsidiary Shanghai Gaoqiao Petrochemical Company officially started one-week checking operation of the flue gas desulfurization facility since December 16th. From 2009, the company will annually cut the emission of sulfur dioxide by 11 000 tons, or 91%, helping improve the air quality in the Pudong district of Shanghai.  
     Gaoqiao Petrochemical, one of Sinopec Group's key refineries with a capacity of 10 million t/a, is now operating six coal burners that totally consume 1.3 million tons coal per year and discharge 12 000 tons sulfur dioxide into the air. The company spent RMB128 million in constructing the desulfurization facility and will spend an operation cost of RMB30 million per year thereafter. The desulfurization technology used was licensed from Europe, featured with lower power consumption.
