SMIRSC and CCTI Join Hands in Clean Coal Production

Sino-Mongolia International Railroad System Corporation (SMIRSC) signed a landmark agreement with Clean Coal Technologies, Inc. of America (CCTI) on December 2nd, under which CCTI will provide the technology to enhance low-grade coal for a coal liquefaction facility.
The two sides will build a joint venture plant in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, with an initial capacity of 1.5 million t/a, to supply clean coal for a newly constructed power station in the same site. Thereafter the capacity of the plant will be expanded to 88 million tons of clean coal per year, the majority of which will be used as feed stock for coal-to-liquid production. Ground breaking on the plant is scheduled to take place in the first quarter of 2009. The plant phase I (initial clean coal production) is expected to operate in 2010.
The clean coal and liquefaction combined plants is estimated to cost US$8 billion over a 10-year period.
The signing ceremony, occurred during 5th China-U.S Strategic Economic Dialogue, was witnessed by Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Operations, William Zarit and Mr. Bu Jin Lai, Vice Governor of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region,
This agreement also plays a crucial role on promoting clean energy under the Asia Pacific Partnership for Clean Development and Climate, which was created in 2006 by six Asia Pacific countries, including the U.S. and China, to work together to promote clean energy among its members.
