IDA Announces Winners of Channabasappa Memorial Scholarships for 2008 - 2009   

On December 2nd, The International Desalination Association (IDA) has awarded its Channabasappa Memorial Scholarship for 2008-2009 to Wang Yichao and Aihua Zhu.
   Wang Yichao graduated from Harbin Institute of Technology in China with a First Class Honor degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering. He is pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, where he is focusing on water reuse and reclamation. He is participating in research to study the fate of trace contaminants in membrane wastewater reclamation.
   Aihua (Richard) Zhu is enrolled in the Ph.D. program at the University of California in Los Angeles. He earned both a B.S. and M.S. degree in Biochemical Engineering from the University of Chemical Technology in Beijing. He is currently pursuing research in water desalination process optimization for affordable and sustainable desalination.
    Through the Channabasappa Memorial Scholarship Program, IDA awards scholarship grants of up to US$10 000 each year to one or more graduate students studying engineering or science in preparation for a career in desalination or water technologies.
    The International Desalination Association is a non-profit association of over 2 000 members in 58 countries. The membership is comprised of scientists, end-users, engineers, consultants and researchers from governments, corporations and academia. IDA is associated with the United Nations as part of a growing international network of non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
