Forthcoming 1 MLN T/A Ethylene Project at Zhenhai Powers Downstream Facilities

AkzoNobel is ready for building an ethylene amines plant at its multi-site in Ningbo Chemical Industry Zone, following the approval by the National Development and Reform Commission. The plant will have a capability to produce 35 thousand tons of ethylene amines per year and is scheduled for startup by 2010.
The ethylene amines plant of AkzoNobel is designed to use ethylene as feedstock sourcing from the forthcoming 1 million t/a ethylene project in Sinopec Zhenhai Refining and Chemical Co., Ltd., which is currently in a stage of installation and scheduled for startup in 2009. The ethylene amines plant is estimated to need 56 thousand tons of ethylene per year, of which 25 thousand tons of ethylene is supplied by the new ethylene project in Sinopec Zhenhai.
In addition, a range of derivatives plants available to ethylene from Sinopec Zhenhai are ready for construction in full swing, including a 150 thousand t/a C5 separation facility of Ningbo Jinhai Deqi Chemical Co., Ltd., a anion/cation exchange resins facility with a capacity of 25 thousand cubic meters per year built by Ningbo Zhengguang Resin Co., Ltd., a 80 thousand t/a maleic anhydride project of Zhejiang Jiangshan Chemical Co., Ltd. and a 80 thousand t/a carbon black project of Ningbo Detai Chemical Co., Ltd. etc.
Insiders say the 1 million t/a ethylene facility will supply sufficient raw materials for downstream facilities near its site at Ningbo and spur the local economic development.
