MEP Promises to Open Green Channel for Spurring Domestic Demand   

To cope with the government's November 5th announcement on tapping ten areas to spur domestic demand, the Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP) recently promised to open green channel for projects related to the announcement while remaining strictly control on the proposed projects with high energy consumption, high emissions and high pollution.
    Wu Xiaoqing, vice minister of MEP, noticed publicly that MEP will accelerate the environmental impact assessment on the projects that are supported by the governmental announcement and can actually spur domestic demand.
    Wu disclosed that MEP approved the environmental impact assessment documents on 93 projects November 26th-28th, translating to a total investment of more than RMB260 billion. Among the approved projects, 18 are involved in communication and water conservancy. Six railway projects are also nodded.
   Recently MEP temporally stopped to check and approve the environmental impact assessment on six chemical and thermal power generation projects, totally valuing at RMB39.4 billion. Wu commented MEP will control more strictly on the proposal of projects not meeting sustainability, therefore promoting the upgrade of industries.
