Gaoqiao Petrochemical Launches Flue Gas Desulfurization Project     

On December 3rd, 2007 construction on the flue gas desulfurization project of Sinopec Shanghai Gaoqiao Petrochemical Company Ltd. was started. The project is one of the environmental protection projects in Shanghai to attain the target of reducing the total sulfur dioxide emission by 10% in 2010. After completion of the project, the air quality in Gaoqiao and even the entire Pudong New Area of Shanghai will improve remarkably.
   With a total investment of RMB127.68 million, the project uses limestone-gypsum wet-process desulfurization technology. Two units with a desulfurization rate of not less than 95% will be constructed. After completion of the project, the sulfur dioxide emission will be reduced by more than 11 000 tons a year.
   Intermediate handing-over will be conducted in October 2008 and the project is expected to go on stream by the end of 2008.
