Jiangsu Exercises Environmental Supervision on Exporters

The Department of Foreign Trade & Economic Cooperation and the Department of Environmental Protection of Jiangsu Province have jointly implemented environmental supervision on exporters. At the same time, 101 exporters have been defined to be the major targets for provincial environmental supervision.
According to officials from the Department of Environmental Protection, the exporters in Jiangsu will have to accept the supervision from both departments. Departments of Environmental Protection at various levels will strengthen monitoring according to the requirements on the supervision of major polluting sources to ensure that the emission in enterprises meet standards. Administrative sanctions will be given to actions in violation of environmental protection regulations. Departments of Foreign Trade & Economic Cooperation at various levels will use sanction decisions provided by Departments of Environmental Protection to restrict the export business in enterprises whose emission does not meet standards.
The 101 exporters defined as the major targets for provincial environmental supervision are all enterprises with large emission of waste gases and waste water. They cover textile, clothe, metallurgical, pharmaceutical, cement, light industry and electronic sectors. Officials from the Department of Foreign Trade & Economic Cooperation point out that the introduction of environmental protection elements into the export business will facilitate the implementation of energy conservation and emission reduction and the transformation of foreign trade modes.
