Chemical Accidents Happened in October   

An explosion took placed on October 6th at the polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) production line of Hunan Xiangwei Company Limited, a subsidiary of ChemChina, possibly causing a poison gas leak. No wound was reported. The 37 years company has operated 45 thousand t/a PVA unit, 20 thousand t/a differential fiber, 65 thousand t/a calcium carbide and 95 thousand t/a vinyl acetate. It just joined in ChemChina in January of 2007.
     
Taizhou Suning Chemical Company Limited suffered an accident of chlorosulfonic acid leak on October 7th. The factory sites at the YongAnZhou Chemical Park, in Gaogang, Taizhou, Jiangsu province in the eastern China. A worker was wounded and villagers close to the factory got ill due to the polluted air. It is reported the accident is caused by a worker's malfunctioned operating action.

A branch under Sinopec Luoyang Petrochemical Company got a fire on October 14th. This accident cause one dead and six wounded. A source disclosed that a leak happened to a heat transfer, causing a fire in the cycling water tower. No impact on the production of Sinopec Luoyang Petrochemical Company was reported.

The sewage treatment workshop of Chongqing Changshou Chemical Company Limited got an explosion on October 13th. Ten workers were wounded. Investigators analyzed that the explosion may be caused by the accumulated chemical materials in the sewage discharging pipe.   

Hebei Cangzhou Dahua Co., Ltd. (SH: 600230) reported that an operating accident happened on October 12th in the construction site of the 50 000 t/a TDI project caused two workers dead. The construction on the new TDI unit has not been affected and the existing TDI operates normally. On May 11th of 2007 the company had an explosion accident at the old TDI production unit.
