BASF Offers Energy Efficient Solutions to Meet China's New Building Regulations

By Tanya Tian

The Chinese government's energy saving measures for residential and public institutions go into effect October 1st, 2008.
In line with the Eleventh Five-Year Program of China to reduce energy consumption, the State Council issued a national decree with a series of energy-saving regulations for both fully and partly state-funded departments and organizations. It says that state-funded units at or above the county levels must make annual energy-saving plans and take specific actions, such as using energy-friendly products.
BASF, the world's leading chemical company, is offering a range of solutions to support public institutions and residential buildings as they comply with new governmental energy efficiency guidelines.
BASF demonstrated its low-energy home concept to China with the renovation of a 5-story building in Hongkou District of Shanghai, showing that a combination of different technologies such as polyurethane foams or double glazed windows can save energy and emissions. The building enjoyed energy savings of almost 50% after renovation.
Contributing to the low-energy home concept is an array of BASF's modern construction materials that regulate heat through various technologies.
