Chemical Enterprises in Shandong Join Hands to Face REACH

Ten chemical enterprises from Shandong province have recently held the third meeting in Qingdao Chengyang Marine Chemical Industry Co., Ltd., a well-known silica gel producer in China, on meeting obligation under REACH. An agreement on jointly meeting obligation under REACH of the European Union was reached between the ten firms.
"It is in fact a mode of joint registration," said Sun Zhibin from Qingdao Chengyang Marine Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. "It can not only successfully meet the requirement of REACH but also greatly reduce the cost."
The ten enterprises understand that REACH is a threshold the export-oriented chemical enterprises must cross. According to relevant provisions, enterprises intending to export their products to the European Union must make REACH pre-registration in the period from June 1st, 2008 to December 1st, 2008. For the export of over 1 000 tons of products, the pre-registration fee for each substance will be 31 000 Euros. Products portfolio in some chemical enterprises contains as many as several dozen substances, which will cost a high in pre-registration. Because of the REACH certification only, the export cost in enterprises will be increased by 5% on average.
According to REACH, joint registration can get a 75% discount, which has therefore become the first choice registration method for many Chinese enterprises.
