China Chemical New Material (Jiaxing) Park

On July 3rd, China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association (CPCIA) named Chemical Industry Park of Jiaxing Port Area (CIP) as "China Chemical New Material (Jiaxing) Park". It will become one of the important chemical new material bases in China.
CIP, located in Jiaxing, Zhejiang province, is one of the major areas in Zhejiang Zhapu Economic Development Zone. It has a planned area of 10 square kilometers, focusing on the development of chemical new materials, including engineering plastics, organic silicone, new flame-retarding agents, polyurethane and water treatment agents. Twenty-five chemical firms have already settled in CIP as of 2007, from China, Japan, Korea, the United States, Canada, Netherlands, Israel, Singapore, Hong Kong region and Taiwan province.
The output of polyurethane in CIP was 103 000 tons in 2007, accounting for 50% of the national total. The capacity of silicone mixed monomers was 60 000 t/a and the capacity of new flame-retarding agents was 55 000 t/a.
According to local media, Beijing Xinhui Science and Technology Co., Ltd. of Tsinghua University plans to invest RMB5.0 billion for a 250 000 t/a butyl rubber plant in CIP. Shanghai Guocheng Investment Co., Ltd. and two other partners will jointly construct a 3 300 t/a polycrystalline silicone and 400 MW solar photovoltaic cell project in CIP, with an investment of RMB4.0 billion, due completion in five years. Honam Petrochemical Co., Ltd. of Korea and Jiaxing Sanjiang Chemical Co., Ltd. will jointly spend US$90 million and construct a 100 000 t/a ethylene oxide project. Construction on it will be started in 2008.
