China Named Ten National Environmental Friendly Projects   

On July 8th, the Ministry of Environmental Protection awarded the name of 'National Environmental Friendly Project' to ten engineering projects including the Qinghai-Tibet Railway, totally spent more than RMB80 billion, among which RMB5.3 billion was used in building environmental protection facilities.
   Two chemical concerned projects won the prize. The 200 000 t/a cathode copper project constructed by Xiangguang Cooper Company Limited of Yanggu, Shandong province ranked the fourth. The 160 000 t/a MDI project constructed by Ningbo Wanhua Polyurethane Company Limited won the sixth.
   CNPC won a prize by its 436 km Tarim Desert Highway shelterbelt project. Since 1989, CNPC has built a 20 million ton-grade oil and gas field in the Tarim Basin. In 1995, Tarim Desert Highway was completed and put in use. The shelterbelt project covering a total area of 3 128 hectares were constructed to prevent the highway from sand.
